Isaiah 41:17 - “The poor and needy seek water, but there is none, their tongues fail for thirst. I, the Lord, will hear them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.

The Whittier Daily News headline read “Missing 71-year old La Habra woman sought”. Who was this woman being sought? My mother, Lolly Ynzunza. No one knew she had gone for a walk that afternoon with her dog “Rusty”.

Lights off and my mom was nowhere to be found. We searched the neighborhood just in case she was close by, but to no avail. “911” was called, friends and family also and the search was on for Lolly. The sun had long been set and the night hours turned to early morning, hundreds of fliers had been posted or passed out. Still no sign of my mom.

A new day dawned and we started our search again. Friends, family, neighbors, strangers, even the homeless were looking for her. Did you say “homeless”? Yes, homeless. Our house was home base. When anyone ran out of fliers, needed water or just a place to sit down and relax, they came by the house and shared any news.

One friend reported that while he was in the park passing out fliers, he handed a flier to a homeless man and asked if he would keep an eye out for her. His replied pulling out his own flier from his belongings “We are all watching out for her.” Well after 2 days, we praise God, she was found!

Remembering back my mom would see a homeless or elderly person walking down the street and always say “Oh, pobrecito (Spanish for poor thing) God bless you”. You see my mom was a nurse and she had a huge heart and love for the downcast and brokenhearted.

An outreach for the homeless. They don’t come to us, we find them, take them a care package, a lunch, a bible (if they would like one), and we give a lot of love, God’s love. So off to the streets we go and have the love of Lolly, who had the love of God.

Proverbs 31:20 - She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy.
